The Vanessa balancing rig
« on: January 15, 2016, 09:10:09 pm »
Found this short video demonstrating the Vanessa balancing rig.......I will set one up soon. Should be interesting to see what my COG's are on my fleet.  Seems the manufactured suggested Center of Gravity on "most" of the foamy ARF's are way off.  Most of us report and experience flying a bit nose heavy for proper flight performance.

This rig will work on nearly any airframe

I would use a marker to put a level datum line on the fuselage, over the CG point, and use some tape to put the level there so it does not change the CG.

I would put some knobs on the big dowel. Maybe some old Tinker Toy wheels.

It is discouraging to see how much weight needs to be added to the nose to overcome just a tiny bit in the tail.

Looks like a good system.

I used the rig on my Bell Hop build, worked great. It was a lot easier to use than my other rig that used rubber tipped dowels. It does not damage the wing covering either.
