DLE 30 V2
Jul 2nd, 2010 at 5:32am

I ordered one of the new rear intake DLE 30's a few days ago, from Tower Hobbies. At only $259.95 delivered to my door... I couldn't pass that up!

Ray alerted me to this deal, and now I'm passing it on to whomever is interested. There is one catch though. In order to get this price, you have to be a member of Tower Hobbies "Super Saver" club...

What a sweet little engine! Mine is going into my YAK 54.

So far, it looks like a really nice engine.

I received my DLE-30 V2 yesterday. It's a very nice engine. You get all the needed components, IE: engine, stand-off's, Ignition, and muffler. This engine is being installed in my YAK 54 at this very moment. The only down-side I have encountered is the firewall to prop-hub length. This engine NEEDS 6 3/8" stand-off. The YAK only needs 4.5". Needless to say, I had to cut the stand-off box to fit this engine.
...

The new firewall is a 1/4" 7 ply, with an .030" aluminum plate epoxied to it. This gives the DLE 30 lots of structural support. Because of the rear carb, I have decided to add a choke servo.

Here you see the linkage side. The throttle & choke are ready. My YAK 54 was equipped with SMOKE, and the smoke muffler from the G20 fits the DLE 30 Perfectly! So, the YAK will continue to have smoke.

Here is the
DLE 30 V2
, 99.9% done. The ignition is mounted and connected. The G20 Smoke muffler mounted with the smoke line(s) connected.
...

The DLE 30 is about 3.4 ounces LIGHTER than the G20 and 50% BIGGER!

All I'm lacking is binding my new
JR X9503
to the
YAK 54
and firing it up. The cowl "should" fit perfectly, however I have a new one ready to go.

Here it is breaking-in a little.
...

I don't care much for the prop, but it was already drilled...

...

It's running rather cool and idling at 2130 RPM.

After 2 tanks of gas and some minor needle adjusting, it's ready to fly. This really will be a maiden, since I have a new radio & engine to deal with.

I'll try to make it to the field today if it doesn't rain.

I did manage to re-maiden the YAK 54 this afternoon. But  the field is a water-logged mess.

I made one flight and packed it in. The DLE-30 V2 ran great and my new radio is superb. Now if we could just get some decent weather...

The next day......

I got lots of flyin' in. I found that the DLE 30 runs best when its revving up to around 9K or more. It also seems to  no actually, it does perform MUCH better with an APC 18x8 as compared to a Xoar 18x8.

So, if you have one of these engines get yourself an APC 18x8.

I have 27 flights on my DLE-30/YAK and it's running great. The smoker is really working well on this engine. Now that this aircraft is all dialed in, I will switch my attention to a new MXS which will either be Moki 1.80 or DLE-30 powered. The jury is still deliberating...
