Hitec Aurora 9

I purchased a new Hitec 2.4 radio in december. Since then I have learned several things about the system... some good and some "disappointing". I'll just list the pro's and con's.

Pro:
easiest to program radio I have owned - touch screen
many features of radios costing 3X as much
full 9 channel proportional
excellent link between tx and rx
additional rx's are less expensive than Fut or Spec/Jr
less expensive than other 9 channel radios
quad ball bearing gimbals
totally assignable sticks/switches/channels
Tx set up for Lipo use
Telemetry - Rx voltage shown on Tx screen

Con:
Charge circuit won't allow using a peak charger
Charge input jack is not the same size as Fut/JR/Spec
Top resolution is 1024, not 2048
Latency is quoted as average 52ms - not a quick system
Exposed segment of the antenna- don't mishandle

Good info. Bill.

I bought a Spektrum  DX7 when they first came out, which is several years ago. To this day it has operated flawlessly. It doesn't have all the features of the Futaba 9C it replaced, but I have managed. If I ever need another radio, I'll consider looking at the Aurora 9 a little more closely.

The early A9's have already had a software update. I needed to purchase a $24 interface to my computer to install the new update. Now you may be thinking, boy is that a rip. Not so, as keeping the radio current will be much cheaper than mailing it back each time an update is needed. Only the High end ( cost wise ) radios are user friendly for updates. So far, I'm pleased.

I now have recievers in 4 airframes. The testing begins.

So far all receivers/planes have performed without a glitch. I am very pleased to get a 9 channel radio with the features and usability of this one for the price.

I was able to perform the update without any problems. Hitec has started a "Wish List" on one of the forums and they are incorporating, as possible, the requested features into the updates. How's that? A company that listens to it's consumers and improves its products without charging extra.

i,ve had mine about two weeks now after a massive back order wait of over three months
this system is in high demand so far
after flying futaba for 30+ years i have changed because of the features and recievers
by the way the built in telemetry is fantastic with being able to check the aircrafts battery voltage on the screen
i,m also interested in the fuel level sensor they have in the works for my big birds

Gary, so far mine has been rock solid. I have it 5 airplanes and all are working as good as my futaba. Next will be a 50cc bird now that all my smaller birds are doing well.

I'm not switching the whole hanger at this point. Just making sure the Hitec system is going to be as solid a platform as my futaba fast system seemed to be.

thanks for the reply , mine will be in all big birds
so far i,m still installing and setting up and programming mine
have not flown the system so far plus still waiting for two more RX,s
i have one optma 9 and two 7,s
i am still very pleased with the easy programming
it sure takes less time to set up than the 10c did
also the thread on rc universe has some details from a trade show about additional telemetry sensors like the fuel level sensor thats the one i,m waiting on
also note there is an update being released soon for additional features check the hitec website

I now have this radio in a 50cc biplane using all nine channels and it performs excellently. Still very pleased with the ease of use, cost of the system and solid performance.
